Here is the second installment of Baby Armie’s tribute to Trax Records. This time around, he peppers the mix with a few Chicago house classics found outside the Trax catalog, like Joe Smooth’s “Promised Land” and Maurice’s “This Is Acid,” both of which were later reissued on Trax, along with the 2004-released throwback jam “Fix My Sink.” Additional tracks from Adonis, Dalis, The Platinum Orchestra, Frankie Knuckles, and Jamie Principle. In February of this year, Baby Armie played a set made up entirely of first generation Chicago house, chiefly songs off Trax Records. The set was recorded live, but it was later discovered that the recording failed due to bad levels. So he’s finally gotten around to re-recording the set in two parts. Part 2 will find its way to the podcast in the coming weeks. Tracks from Virgo, M.E., Sampson “Butch” Moore, Screamin’ Rachel, Dion & Tony, Farley “Jackmaster” Funk, Boris Badenough, Byron Stingily, The Nightwriters, Trax Records, House Records, Rush Hour Recordings, and Danica Records. Earlier this month, Baby Armie played two sets at the outdoor stage at Cool Shoes, a monthly party he’s been helping promote in his current city of Fayetteville, Arkansas. For fans of Tim Sweeny’s Beats in Space radio show on WNYU. Tracks from Blondes, Reggie Dokes, Mark E, Ilya Santana, Lazercat, Softwar, John Talabot, Phunktastike, Delorean, Fort Romeau, Yes Wizard, The 2 Bears, RVNG Intl., Cinematic, Spectral Sound, Santa Esperanza, Spirit Soul, Future Classic, Hivern, 100% Silk, Tigersushi, Ratcliffe, and Southern Fried. Staying close to the bass-oriented themes of the last two podcasts, Baby Armie ventures into his favorite cuts from recent years in the leftfield “beat” scene, which is most prominent in L.A. and led by Flying Lotus. Some call it “glitch-hop,” others “hip-hop.” But whatever you call it, J Dilla’s influence is heard resoundingly on just about every track here. A whopping 30 tracks with music from Dibia$e, Ta-Ku, Bilal, Hazeem, Alex Anderson, Arts the Beatdoctor, Lapti, Juj, Waajeed, Onra, Rihanna, Antonionian, Salva, B. Bravo, Flako, Javelin, Lapalux, Amalia, Deezy D, Clams Casino, Main Attraktionz, Boris, Nosaj Thing, Groundislava, Skyence, Kijk Een Ster, Bullion, Mo, and Szenario. *pant* Full tracklist on SoundCloud.
